Tripoli – The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has sounded the alarm, warning of an imminent “total collapse” of the electrical grid in the western region, which threatens to cause a complete blackout.
At current LNG prices, the levelized cost of electricity from gas-fired power is 3–4 times the global average for solar and wind, and gas-fired power is uncompetitive with solar plus storage in many Asian markets.
